Saving an old frame

I loved this old frame the second I saw it in the antique store. It was coming home. I also felt I had the perfect unframed painting to accent it. It was too good to be true.
The frame was missing a corner decal piece and was well beaten. The back was tattered and torn where the previous painting had been ripped out. Numerous levels of back padding had to be sanded away. The painting, while almost perfect was also a bit to small for the opening. So the frame was dismantled for cleanup. Since the decal couldn't be easily matched, the remaining 3 were removed. It's laid out here to see where cuts were needed to fit the painting.
With some touch up stain, light sanding and final coat of lacquer, the pieces were looking very pretty.
With some careful measurements and precise cuts, the frame was reassembled to fit the painting like a glove!
Love the end result!!

**Painting is an original work done by a former client I worked with. I was lucky enough to buy it at one of his art shows after covetting it for quite some time.
